Dear Parents and Carers of Children in Class 3,
Happy New Year!
We hope you enjoyed the Christmas holiday and are feeling refreshed and ready for the New Year.
Please be aware that PE sessions will continue to be on Wednesday and Friday afternoons for Class 3, so children will need their PE kit on these days (black shorts and yellow t-shirt, plus warmer clothes whilst it’s still chilly!).
In Class 3, Miss Downing will continue to teach Monday – Thursday and Mrs Yates will teach on Friday. We are lucky enough to have great support from Mrs Cherrington, Mrs Liddicott, Miss West, Mrs Breeze, Mrs Eagles, Mrs Sutcliffe and Mr Wild at different times throughout the week.
Our topic for this half term is, ‘What Lies Beneath Our Feet’ and we will focus a lot of our learning on fossil fuels and renewable energies, amongst other things. You can read more about our learning on the topic web on the school’s website.
Next half term, our topic will be, ‘How Does What We Eat Affect the World?’
As per the meeting that I carried out at the beginning of the academic year, we encourage children to learn the curriculum spellings at home, as well as regular reading and times tables practice. No official homework will be sent home. For year 6, as we head towards SATs in May, I shall send further information home regarding what you can do to help your child, as well as what I can offer to further offer support.
Please listen to, or encourage, your child to read daily, even if it is just a few pages. It will help them to become confident readers, but it also gives children ideas for their own writing.
If you have any questions, please feel free to catch us in the playground or arrange a meeting through Mrs Hardy in the office.
