Summer Term Science
This half term we will continue our topic on Light. We will investigate colours of light and the spectrums these produce.
What is a spectrum?
Light is made up of wavelengths of light, and each wavelength is a particular colour. The colour we see is a result of which wavelengths are reflected back to our eyes.
Using a prism we will investigate how we can split up white light to form a spectrum. As the light waves enter and leave the prism they will be refracted. The shorter the wavelength of the light, the more it is refracted. Hopefully we will see that red light is refracted the least and violet light is refracted the most. As a result, the coloured light will spread out to form a spectrum.
Using prisms we investigated how they slow a ray of light down so that we can see the colours the light is made up of.
We have been experimenting with different coloured filters to see how this affects what we see.
