Class 2: Autumn 2016

Class Two has the pupils of years two, three and four. The teachers are Mr Pengelly and Mrs Yates. The Teaching Assistant is Mrs Liddicott.

At the beginning of this term we will be continuing our history topic, focusing particularly on Viking invaders and the impact that Viking culture had on British society. We will be using this topic as the foundation for cross curricular work in English through non-fiction writing and writing about events from different perspectives, as well as in our art and design/technology projects.

This term we will also be carrying out a geography project on Spain to coincide with our language work. We will find out about the main geographical and cultural features of the country and we will find out about how life is different for Spanish schoolchildren. We will end the term by looking at how Christmas is celebrated in Spain.

In maths we will continue to follow the Inspire maths programme, focusing this term primarily on problem solving, multiplication and division. As part of this work we will have a particular focus on learning times tables off by heart. Our science work will be based around recycling and what we can do to protect the Earth’s resources.

PE lessons will continue to be on Wednesday afternoons and swimming will take place on Fridays. Homework and spellings will be given out on Fridays and should be returned the following Friday. We have been really impressed with the quality of the homework that the children have produced- thank you for your continuing support with their learning.
