Welcome to Class 2

Welcome to our class page for the Summer Term. Here you will find information about staffing, routines and homework. You will find this term’s topic information on a separate page.

Mr Pengelly teaches Class Two all day on Monday, all day on Wednesday and on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Mrs Yates teaches the class on Friday afternoons and all day on Thursday.

On Tuesday afternoons, Mrs Liddicott takes the class for PE and art.

Mrs Parker works in the class as a teaching assistants.

Mrs Chaffer works in the class as a teaching assistant.

PE lessons will be on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Children’s PE kit should be kept in school at all times if possible. We sometimes do outdoor learning on Wednesday afternoons. We will let you know the weeks during which this is taking place.

Every Friday from 26th April to 5th July we will be going swimming at Mount Kelly. We will travel by coach to the pool and we will return to school before lunchtime. There will be a total of ten sessions for all children.

Reading: Please try to read with your child as regularly as possible. This does not always need to be a school reading book (anything that your child enjoys is a good starting point!). Discussing what your child reads with them is also hugely beneficial in developing their understanding.

Times tables: Learning times tables has a significant impact on children’s progress in maths. Throughout the year we will be practising different tables in class, but any time spent on this at home will really help your child. Children will be given regular opportunities to demonstrate what they have learned and there will be a class reward system for each time a child learns a new times table.

In order to support maths learning we have subscribed to Times Tables Rock Stars which is an online platform to help children learn tables and number facts. Other web based games which are very helpful for maths learning are Hit the Button, Toy Shop Money Game and Stop the Clock.

You will find below the statutory spellings for your child’s year group (Year 3 spellings are combined with Year 4 in the National Curriculum so they will be covered over the next two years). We will be practising these throughout the year in class and again, any help that you can give your child in practising these will support their learning in class.

If you have any questions, or would like to discuss anything with us. Please feel free to contact us.
