Happy New Year and welcome to the start of the Spring Term. The topic this half term is Dinosaurs. Details about our learning adventure can be found on the topic web. The topic for the second half term will be plants.
P.E. is on a Monday and for a few weeks we will have special Zumba (Wednesdays) and football (Thursdays) sessions led by P.E. specialists. Please ensure all uniform and P.E. kit is labelled. Your child needs a water bottle in school; we will re-fill and rinse it during the week and send it home on Fridays for a proper wash.
Homework is optional but ideas for activities related to each half term topic will be provided in the children’s homework books. Please share any completed tasks with me for display in our home learning display area. If you have any concerns or queries about the homework please talk to me.
Please listen to your child read every day, even if it is just a few pages, it will really help them become confident, eager readers. We will try our best to listen to them in school daily and change their reading book. If we have been unable to, you are more than welcome to change their book. Your child will sometimes have letter sounds or words to learn. We will try to include game suggestions in the pack.
Show and tell is on Fridays. On Fridays, children may bring a small home toy or item of interest to school. They will have the opportunity before school begins to talk about it with their peers and will be encouraged to draw a picture and write about it in their morning books. On occasions, we will ask the children to bring in an item related to our topic and details will be included in their reading record books. Please remind your child not to bring home toys to school on other days.
If you happen to be or know any palaeontologists, historians or museum curators, please let me know – we would love to have some special visitors talk to us about their work.
